Dogs and Cancer

dogs and cancerdogs and cancer DOGS and CANCER: When Dr. Steven Eisen's 11 year old Lhasa Apso, Fergie was diagnosed with lymphoma, he decided to treat his dog holistically. Using a skillfully tailored diet plus natural supplements, his dog lived for another two and a half years.

Dog Cancer: The Holistic Answer describes in detail the broad protocol Dr. Eisen used to rescue his dog Fergie from her death sentence and explains how to customize it for one's own dog. In just 80 pages, Dr. Eisen clearly explains the five steps of the healing protocol: elimination of toxins from the body; an anti-cancer diet; immune enhancement; enzyme therapy; and the use of vitamins, herbs, and other supplements. The totality of information distilled by Dr. Eisen cannot currently be found in any other single source.

DOGS AND CANCER

Can you believe that cancer is the leading cause of death in dogs over the age of 10? And 50% of them will die from it. In fact, 25% of all dogs will will develop some type of cancer during their lifetime! Why is this?

Could it be just because our dogs are living longer, so the chances of developing cancer rises? Is it genetics? Studies have shown that certain breeds are predisposed to the disease: (see cancer dog breeds list) Or is it because of environmental exposures to toxins, pollutants, pesticides, over medicating, administering unnecessary vaccines, feeding low quality dog food filled with preservatives, and the like, which are weakening our dog's immune system so it is unable to fight the disease?

In fact, all three: genetics, nutrition, and environmental risks all factor into the reason why dogs get cancer. And while we may not be able to control our dog's genes we can certainly help their immune system and reduce the level of toxins that go into their bodies.

Dogs and Cancer a Simple Explanation: Cancer is caused by an uncontrolled division of abnormal cells in a part of the body. In a healthy body, the immune system detects and destroys damaged cells but if the body is overrun with toxins and harmful bacteria, the immune system is unable to fight the mutated cells. Eventually these abnormal cells form tumors which in turn, interfere with the normal functioning of healthy cells, organs, or body tissues.

Bottom line: a healthy immune system is the best defense for preventing cancer in your dog. You can help your Miniature Schnauzer strengthen hos immune system and fight diseases by:

Dogs and Cancer tip: Mammary tumors are very common in female dogs but could be practically eliminated just be spaying your dog. Find out more: Mammary Tumors in Dogs

It is important to regularly perform at-home physical examinations on your dog. If you find any lumps (especially around the neck) you should have your Vet examine your dog. Remember, the earlier a diagnosis is made, the better chances your dog will have for successful treatment.

DOGS AND CANCER: Treatment Options: Treatment options for a dog with cancer depends on the type of cancer, its location in the body, and the stage of the disease. Usually treating cancer in dogs consists of one or more of the following: surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.

  • Surgery: The preferred and most commonly used technique for treating dogs with cancer.

  • Chemotherapy: If the disease has spread to other parts of the body or cannot be treated with surgery or radiation alone, chemotherapy (or drug therapy) is used to kill or slow down the growth of the cancer cells.

  • Radiation Therapy: An emission of ionizing radiation to kill cancer cells and/or used to decrease the burden of the tumor if it cannot be surgically removed.
