Lady was such a sweet, loving dog. She was great with the grandchildren and a wonderful, loving companion for both my husband and myself. Once she was a couple of years old, we got another female miniature schnauzer as well, and they were great companions for each other as well.
A few weeks ago, my beloved Lady dropped over. She had a history of a small heart murmur that never needed treatment. I immediately began CPR on her (I'm a nurse, and I've done CPR on people but never an animal) as we rushed her to the vet. Unfortunately, she didn't make it and we were devastated.
Now comes the spiritual part of my story. Earlier this month I had an allergic reaction to an IV antibiotic given prior to the removal of a kidney stone. The last thing I remembered is saying "I don't feel right". Apparently, I coded for an extended period of time, was brought back, coded again, and eventually transferred by helicopter to a bigger hospital. It took a few days, but I eventually regained consciousness and had all of my faculties as well. But in the time in which I was non-responsive, Lady was with me. I also saw people that had died before as well.
So, if anyone doesn't believe that dogs go to heaven too, I would disagree with them. Lady will always be missed, but at least I know she's in a better place.
