Dogs in Weddings

Every Mini Schnauzer owner I've ever known truly considers their dogs members of their family. So of course we would have our dogs in the wedding, right?

If you are planning for your Miniature Schnauzer to take part of your upcoming nuptials here are a few things to keep in mind:

Choose a close friend or family member you trust to be in charge of your Mini Schnauzer for the day. In fact, you might consider hiring a  pet sitter to watch over your dog. Give specific instructions ahead of time so your Schnauzers caretaker knows exactly what you expect.

Is your dog trained and well behaved? If your Schnauzer is nervous around lots of people or a barking machine maybe staying around for the whole day isn't a good idea. In this case, you might only want your Schnauzer to be around for pictures and then escorted home.

If your Schnauzer does stay for the ceremony and reception, your pet sitter can ensure he gets fed, plenty of water, taken outside to potty and is kept away from all dangerous plants and foods that may be present. Alcoholic beverages and/or caffeine are also toxic to dogs.

Tip: Have your someone walk/exercise your Mini Schnauzer ahead of time so he's not as hyper during the wedding ceremony.

If you plan on dressing your dog up in a tuxedo or a dress please make sure it fits properly and comfortably and it's not at all binding. And if your Schnauzer shows any resistance at all, please don’t force him to wear an outfit. A great alternative is a flower garland.

Dogs in Wedding Pictures

Even if your Schnauzer doesn't stay for the entire event, you can include him in your wedding day photos. Just look at Karen's beautiful wedding pics with her Mini Schnauzer.

Be sure to collaborate with your photographer. Explain how important it is that your dog be included in your wedding album and what type of pictures you would like. Action shots make some of the best pictures. Just like this one of Karen and her Mini Schnauzer jumping up to give her a kiss. So sweet.

Photo tip: Take a few treats and squeaky toys with you during your photo shoot to help get your Schnauzers attention and for some great expression shots.
