Dog Strollers

Dog strollers have become increasingly popular among pet owners who want to bring their furry friends along with them everywhere they go. And it is no different for Miniature Schnauzer owners.

Whether you have a brand new Miniature Schnauzer puppy who just can't go the distance on their own yet, or a senior Schnauzer who runs out of steam halfway through a walk, or if your Schnauzer is somewhat disabled or suffering from arthritis or hip dysplasia... pet strollers made for dogs provide them all the opportunity to still enjoy the great outdoors.

5 Tips for Buying Dog Strollers

Before you run out and buy just any dog stroller here are some buing tips to keep in mind:

  1. Take measurements: Be sure your Miniature Schnauzer will be able to sit, stand, and lay down comfortably within the compartment. For most Miniature Schnauzers a pet stroller that is at least 17 inches long, 11 inches wide, and has a height of 18 inches should suffice, but measure your dog to be sure. And if you are buying for a puppy, go ahead and purchase the size for an adult dog so she can grow into it.

  2. Weight: Make sure your Miniature Schnauzer is within the weight limits of the product. This is important for your pet stroller to work efficiently and last for a long time. A weight limit of 20 pounds is good for a 15 pound Schnauzer but if your Mini is closer to 20 pounds, I would suggest going to the next weight limit for the product, like 25 pounds, to ensure proper support and durability.

  3. Type of Stroller: Think about when and where you will be using your pet stroller the most. Do you need a regular lightweight stroller for your dog? small dog jogging stroller? Or something to use during bikes rides with your dog? Or how about a 3 in 1 pet carrier that is a stroller, carrier, and car seat all in one? Each type is made particularly for its use.

  4. Product Features: Other features to consider: Does it open and close easily? Does it have extra storage room or a lower storage bin for treats, toys, and packages? Does it have a handle bar with cup holders? Does it offer a canopy for shade or a mesh covering to keep bugs out? Is the handle to floor height at a comfortable level for you or can it be adjusted to push along comfortably?

  5. Price and Value: Pet strollers can range in price from $30 to $300. How much you decide to spend will first depend on the type you need but then you should reflect on how often you will use it. Do you go on lots of walks or hikes with your Miniature Schnauzer? Do you take your dog to festivals and other crowded events (picnics, dog shows)? Will you be able to take your Schnauzer to more places where previous access would have been restricted? Do you travel a lot with your Miniature Schnauzer?

Dog strollers are not just for the super pampered pooch anymore, they are for all dogs. They provide a safe and comfortable transport for your dog. And as an added bonus, they provide protection for your dog's paws when walking on icy roads, hot pavements, areas that have been chemically treated or saltwater roads with sand-spurs, etc.

So the next time you are out and about with your Mini Schnauzer and she becomes too tired to continue and so you have to carry her the rest of the way ... you might just wish you had a pet stroller.
