Pet First Aid Awareness

April is Pet First Aid Awareness Month and what better time to remind us as pet parents that as each new season begins, so does a host of new dangers for our Miniature Schnauzers.

Spring flowers are blooming (some of which can be dangerous or toxic if ingested by our pets); Yards and homes are being treated with all kinds of pesticides and/or herbicides that could harm our pets; Mosquitoes bring the threat of heartworms and the list goes on. So now is a really good time to be sure your dog first aid kit is up-to-date and well stocked so you can be prepared to administer help to your dog when needed.

Another good investment in your dog's health and safety would be to take a pet first aid course. You can check with your local Red Cross, pet stores, or even take a course online. A good course will cover information on identifying what is normal for your dog, handling sudden illness, minor injuries, wounds and bleeding, burns, poisoning, disaster preparation, and CPR for your dog.

Get more info on preparing an at-home first aid kit for dogs and taking a pet first aid course online. Knowing the right steps to take when your Miniature Schnauzer is injured could possibly save his life.

If you prefer to buy a 1st aid kit, here are several pre-made first aid kit for dogs.
