Winter Grooming

To answer several questions we’ve received about winter grooming… It is necessary to continue bathing your Miniature Schnauzer during the winter months. You might not need to bathe your Schnauzer as often but dirt and oil build-up can lead to bacteria forming, allergies, constant scratching, and schnauzer bumps!

How often? Well, that depends on your dog’s lifestyle and how much time spent outdoors, etc… but every 4 to 6 weeks during the winter should be enough.

Also be sure to use a gentle shampoo made for dogs that is free of parabens and sulfates. A good shampoo won't dry out the skin and coat.

Mats & Tangles: Combing and brushing your Miniature Schnauzer on a regular basis will really help prevent mats and tangles from forming. If you do encounter an unruly mat, the most humane thing to do is just cut it out. It’s actually safer to do this using your grooming clippers which will reduce the risk of cutting the skin.
